Just a little info on the Tamiya Connectors, They don't handle current very well. In fact, when you charge a battery pack with Tamiya connectors and a peak charger, they tend to peak quicker because the connector gets hot and peaks the charger. I've always used Deans connectors, but recently I used the Turnigy XT connector and they work just as well.
I understand you wanting to change the connector to Tamiya, But if you can afford to change to Deans connectors, you can buy them for cheap from HobbyKing.com My Projects:

right, i have a cunning but probably stupid plan. the original white hopper, once i get some decent suspension on it will make an awesome off roader, as far as my RC driving skills go.
sooooooooooo. i was thinking, can i turn the second build with the hornet body on it into a tarmac racer? 540 motor, stiff suspension and get some wheels/tires that are slicks, like on a touring car. would this work or am i dreaming? i would have the best of both worlds then. an off road racer and a tarmac screamer |

There is no reason you can't do that. You can change the rims and tires to on road semi slicks very easily on the back, the front might be more tricky because of the bearings in the rims. I think the older F1 chassis had front rims with bearings, the more modern chassis have bearings in the hubs like the M03/M04 chassis.
The suspension can be tuned with different springs, stiffening collars, and heavier shock oil, to stiffen them for road use. I don't know how well the Grasshopper will handle as a on road vehicle, but I'll be watching this thread closely for progress... My Projects:

i have some hex adaptors for the front and rear wheels so that is not a problem. if you look in my previous posts i have use lunchbox uprights to space out the front wheels and allow for the use of the hex spacers, i guess i need to work out what wheel/tire size i need to get.
i am going to ditch the side bumpers and fit a modified alloy front guard, eventually |

When you say hex adapters, what are you refering too? Are you refering to the standard Tamiya touring car hex adapters? Don't you need the front rims that run on bearings?

i have the tamiya hex adaptors on the rear but on the front i am running 12mm brass hex bar drilled to 5mm to run on the lunchbox uprights. they run free and fine with no bearings. i regrease them every time i take it out, when they wear, which will be quicker than the steel stub axles i will replace them. i have a bag full of them |
